OUR HERITAGE
Marr Contracting is a third-generation family-owned and run craneage business with a strong sense of tradition and loyalty engrained in everything we do. A fascination with cranes and problem solving has always been in our genes.
It all began in 1926 when doctors told our grandfather, Gordon Marr, that he would probably die young due to a chronic lung disease. He left school at the age of 16 and started working for his father’s steel fabrication business, E.A. Marr and Sons.
While still a teenager, Gordon designed Sydney’s first crane after identifying the need for a more practical solution to installing the steel fittings the foundry was delivering around the city. Eventually, the foundry business was sold but the crane operations prospered trading as Marr Contracting and built our reputation as ‘The Men from Marr’s’.
Gordon lived to the ripe old age of 87, and from that first crane he built in Sydney we’ve grown to become one of the world’s leading crane companies with a fleet of more than 70 cranes and projects around the world.
LET'S TALK ABOUT HOW WE COULD ADD VALUE TO YOUR PROJECT
We work with our clients to find a craneage solution that works – no matter how big or complex the job is. If the right crane doesn’t already exist, we’ll build one to suit the needs of your project.
