THE CHALLENGE

A high-cost project running to a demanding schedule with multiple contractors and suppliers – further complicated by dangerous seas, unpredictable weather patterns, cyclonic conditions, the world’s highest recorded wind speeds (400kms / hour), an A-class marine conservation reserve and strict quarantine management systems.

OUR SOLUTION

Working with construction delivery partners, Kellogg Joint Venture – Gorgon (KJVG) we engineered a number of innovative solutions and components – including the super fly and SPMT transport system – to address the logistics and construction challenges and provide greater coverage, flexibility and value to Chevron’s construction methodology.

THE RESULT

Our involvement resulted in significant cost savings and productivity gains including reduced crane dismantle and reassemble times from 2-3 weeks to 1.5 hours, reduced cargo unloading and re-packaging times from up to 5 days to one.

LET'S TALK ABOUT HOW WE COULD ADD VALUE TO YOUR PROJECT

We work with our clients to find a craneage solution that works – no matter how big or complex the job is. If the right crane doesn’t already exist, we’ll build one to suit the needs of your project.

BARROW ISLAND

Located on the northwest coast of Western Australia, the Chevron-operated Gorgon Project is one of the world’s largest LNG projects and the largest single resource development in Australia’s history.

BARROW ISLAND, AUGUST 2010 – SEPTEMBER 2015

Working with KJVG, Marr erected a Favelle Favco M2480D tower crane to unload freight at the MOF at Wapet Landing on Barrow Island. The solution reduced barge unloading and repacking times from 4-5 days to a day.

PERTH, APRIL 2011 – MAY 2014

KJVG contracted Marr’s to provide a craneage solution for the Project’s marine lifting facility at AMC Henderson, Perth. Using a world-first engineering solution, we used SPMT trailers to achieve ‘the impossible’ – loading a 12,000 tonne M2480D crane onto the Barrow Island-bound super barge, “Miss Hannah”

PERTH – BARROW ISLAND, MAY 2013 – MAY 2016

Fully loaded with the M2480D crane and multimillion-dollar cargo, Miss Hannah makes repeated return journeys along the 906 nautical mile of coastline to deliver construction materials and supplies for the LNG Plant on Barrow Island.

BARROW ISLAND, OCTOBER 2013 – NOVEMBER 2016

The SMPT trailer solution we used to load the M2480D onto Miss Hannah is employed at the LNG Plant to move tower cranes around the construction site within 1.5 hours instead of taking2-3 weeks to dismantle and reassemble each time a crane is relocated.

ONSLOW, APRIL 2015 – 2018

On the success of the Gorgon Project, Marr are working with international engineering, construction and project management company, Bechtel, to build the $40 billion Wheatstone Project near Onslow in Western Australia.
